2022 Emmy nominations: Continuity leads, HBO ahead of Netflix

The 2022 Emmy nominations were announced Tuesday by JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero during a virtual ceremony. HBO took the top spot with 25 nominations, followed by Apple. Ted Lasso and HBO’s “White Lotus” finished second with 20 nominations each. Hacks (17), Only Building Murders (17), Euphoria (16), Barry (14), Dopesik (14), Severance (14), Squid Game (14), Ozark (13), Stranger Things (13), The Amazing Mrs. Maisel (12) and Pam and Tommy (10) were the other shows that managed to collect more than a dozen nominations.
HBO leads Netflix with 108 nominations, compared to the latter’s 105. The competition between these two platforms was even stronger last year — HBO (130) and Netflix (129).
It was a year full of extraordinary achievements for women. Women received almost half of the nominations in the screenplay and director category. About 40% of screenplay nominations are said to be women.
The 2022 Emmy nominations had 50 up-and-coming actors nominated in several different categories – Chadwick Boseman (What If…?), Elle Fanning (The Great), Andrew Garfield (Under the Sky Banner), Joon Ho-Yeon (The Squid). Game), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Barack Obama (Our Great National Parks), Sebastian Stan (Pam and Tommy) and more.
The 74th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater on September 12 on NBC and live on the Peacock streaming platform. There is currently no update on the Indian broadcaster for this event.
