5 dead, at least 10 trapped after two-storey building collapses in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi

The fire department and the National Security Service arrived at the scene and rescued the trapped people. Avinash Sawant, head of the regional emergency department, said that rescue and relief operations have started at the scene.
The death toll from the collapse of a two-storey building in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra’s Thane district rose to five on Sunday afternoon after a body was found in the rubble, even as search and rescue efforts continued more than 24 hours after the incident.
The building at Wardhaman complex in Mankoli’s Valpada district collapsed into a concrete pile on Saturday at around 1.45 pm, with the ground floor and the top floor of the deities and four families.
About 10-20 people are feared to be trapped under the rubble. It is said that around three to four families were living in the building on the second floor, while some workers were working on the lower floors of the building and were trapped under the rubble.
