A bus carrying 40 children crashed in the French Alps

A bus carrying 40 elementary school students home from a trip to the French Alps plunged down a wooded slope into a stream on Saturday, sending the driver and his partner to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.
Eighteen children and another adult were treated for minor injuries, said the mayor of Corpus, Fabien Moulik. “They’re all fine,” he told The Associated Press.
The regional prosecutor conducted an investigation. The mayor said the “most likely scenario” was that the driver had some sort of medical condition while driving.
Local officials told French media that the weather was clear when the bus went off the road, and there was no ice or snow in the area where the bus crashed. They said all the children were wearing seat belts.
A photo from the city posted online shows the bus with a broken windshield and leaning on the side of a ravine among dry branches.
