A Memphis mother attacked police to escape her son’s arrest

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) – A mother is in police custody after allegedly assaulting police to keep her son from escaping and going to jail.

According to reports, the officer was attempting to arrest the suspect for a probation violation and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000. During the arrest, his mother, Xavieria Crawford, stepped in to protect him from the officer.

The suspect tried to run from the police, and the officer continued to try to apprehend him. Crawford then swung his arms at the officer and tried to hit him, MPD said.

When the officer turned his attention to her, she told her son to run and leave. According to court documents, her son fled the scene.

The reports did not say whether the suspect had been found or arrested.

Xavieria Crawford was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assisting after the fact.
