A sheriff’s report says Jeremy Renner was run over by a snowcat while trying to save his nephew.

Actor Jeremy Renner ducked under a snowplow to try to stop a snowcat from hitting his cousin on New Year’s Day, according to an incident report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

After the “Avengers” star used it to pull his cousin’s truck out of the snow, the vehicle began to slide sideways, and the parking brake, which was not set, stopped him, according to an incident report filed Friday. The document was obtained by CNN on Tuesday through a public records request.

“Pistenbulli’s attendant skidded, forcing Renner to exit the vehicle without using the emergency brake,” the report said.

“While the Pistonbulli has some mechanical problems, based on our mechanical review, it is believed that the parking brake is preventing the Pistonbulli from moving forward. When Renner tried to stop or direct Pistenbully to avoid injury [his nephew]he was pulled under the rail and crushed.

The report also states that the brake warning light in the vehicle’s interior was inoperative and “a mechanical failure may have contributed to this accident.”

Renner was airlifted to a hospital, where he spent more than two weeks, undergoing at least two surgeries and being treated in the intensive care unit.

A 911 call log obtained by CNN said Renner was “completely crushed under the large snowcat.” [vehicle]” and it is “extreme [difficulty] breathing.” He further reads that “the right side of his chest was crushed – the upper part of his body was crushed.”

The incident began on New Year’s Day, when Renner towed his snowbound cousin’s truck out of the actor’s driveway, which he told investigators was hospitalized on Jan. 5.

After successfully getting the truck out of the snow and onto the street, Renner said the plow “started sliding sideways” and then “rolled down the hill.” That’s when Renner told investigators he jumped from the snowplow.

“After he got out of Pistenbulli he realized he was headed straight [his nephew,]”, we read in the report. “He was afraid that Pistenbulli would hit him [his nephew]so he decided to try to stop or divert Pistenbul.

Renner had to climb onto a moving walkway to get into the snowplow’s cab, the report said. When he jumped onto the track, the report said, Renner was “immediately thrown under the left lane.”

“Pistenbulli bypassed him and continued on the road,” the report said. “He lay on the floor and focused on his breathing [his nephew and others] Medical personnel saved him before reaching the scene.

Renner, who plays archer superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel film and Universal TV series, says he broke more than 30 bones during the incident.

She posted on Instagram last week, “Morning workouts, resolutions all made a difference this new year…Focused on bringing together love born of grief and quick action for my whole family ❤️ I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and for taking care of me and my family …. Much love and gratitude to you all. These 30+ broken bones are mended and strengthened as the love and connection to family and friends deepens. Love and blessings to you all.

The report also did not consider impaired driving as a factor in the accident.

CNN has reached out to Renner’s representatives for comment.
