New Delhi:

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will deploy 18 more companies to Jammu and Kashmir following the death of civilians in two fresh terror attacks in Rajouri district, sources familiar with the development said.

18 companies of CRPF – around 1,800 personnel – will be sent to Jammu region to be deployed mainly in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

According to records, eight CRPF companies will soon be deployed from nearby deployments in Jammu and Kashmir, while 10 CRPF companies will be hastily withdrawn from Delhi.

The move follows a recent order issued by the Home Ministry in connection with information about a terror attack in the Jammu region, sources said.

Six people, including two children, were killed and scores injured in two separate terror attacks in Upper Dangri village in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night and Monday morning.

In the latest terror attack, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in Upper Dangri village of Rajouri on Monday morning, killing two children and injuring several others.

ADGP Mukesh Singh warned people that another suspected explosive device was found in an area near Upper Dangri village, about eight kilometers from Rajouri town.

Officials said the blast happened near a house where terrorists killed four civilians and wounded many others in a shootout on Sunday night.

About a dozen people were injured in two attacks by terrorists on Sunday evening. The injured were treated at a Jammu hospital.

In the first attack, two armed terrorists barged into three houses about 50 meters apart on Sunday evening and opened fire indiscriminately. Four civilians were killed and six were wounded in the attack.

These separate attacks are the third killing of civilians in Rajouri district in the last two weeks after two people were killed outside an army camp on December 16.

The attack caused panic in the neighborhood. Today, several organizations went on strike protesting the incident and demanding immediate action.

Army and CRPF have launched a massive search operation to nab the two “gunmen” behind the attack on Upper Dangri village.

The office of LG Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed in the firing and employment by the government.

“The next of kin of each of the civilians killed in the local attack will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh and a government job. Those seriously injured will get Rs 1 lakh. better treatment to the victims,” LG JK office said in a statement.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) also visited the village, where security measures have been tightened.
