An emotional Andres Iniesta has announced the departure of Vissel Kobe, but does not want to quit the game
Spanish legend Andres Iniesta has confirmed he is leaving Japanese club Vissel Kobe, but has no plans to end his career.
The 39-year-old, who spent five years in the J-League, admitted his decision was due to a lack of playing time.
The 2010 World Cup winner, who won four Champions Leagues with Barcelona, broke down in tears to announce his departure at a press conference on Thursday.
Iniesta has made just three substitute appearances this season, but despite that, he told reporters he would continue his playing career elsewhere.
“I have to tell you the truth, I don’t know,” Iniesta said when asked which club he would play for next.
“I want to continue playing football. I feel like I can keep playing. But at the end of this chapter we will see what is possible. I want to finish my career playing on the field, and I hope to do that.
The Spaniard joined Vissel Kobe in 2018 after ending his 16-year spell at Barcelona.
He moved to Japan on an initial three-year contract but extended his stay for a further two years.
His last game for the J-League leaders could be against Consadol Sapporo on July 1.
“It’s a very emotional day after so many years,” added Iniesta. “I tried to give my best on and off the field. I am very proud of it.

“I was welcomed here from day one.”
Iniesta is best known for scoring Spain’s winning goal against Holland in the 2010 World Cup final.
