Apple has revealed critical security flaws in iPhones, iPads and Macs that could allow attackers to gain full control of these devices.

According to the corporation, “they are aware of reports that this issue may have been aggressively exploited.”

Apple released two security assessments on the issue on Wednesday, but they received little notice outside of tech magazines.

Users are advised to upgrade affected devices, which include iPhone 6S models and later; multiple iPad models, including 5th generation and later; all iPad Pro models; and iPad Air 2; and Mac computers running macOS Monterey. This also applies to some iPod models.

According to Apple’s description of the vulnerability, a hacker could gain “full administrative access to the device” and “run any code as if you were the user,” says Rachel Tobac, CEO of SocialProof Security.

“People in the public eye,” such as activists or journalists who may be targeted by sophisticated nation-state eavesdropping, should pay special attention to software updates, according to Tobacco.
