ASUU has been on strike for over seven months now and as a result, millions of Nigerian students are at home throughout the strike. However, Harvard-certified strategist and leadership development consultant, Dr. John Ekundaya, advised ASUU to stop talking only about the salaries of its members.

Dr. John said this in an interview with TVC news. Dr. John was of the view that ASUU should focus on how to convince the Federal Government to grant autonomy to Nigerian universities. Dr. John believes that until Nigerian universities are given autonomy to manage their affairs without being dependent on the Federal Government, all the problems that ASUU has been complaining about will most likely not go away.

According to Dr. John, ASUU members focus on the welfare of their members without considering the welfare of the students. Dr. John further said that it is difficult for the Federal Government of Nigeria to meet the demands of ASUU because of the country’s economic situation.

Dr. John went on to say that the best way to solve ASUU’s problems is to get autonomy from the federal government for the universities. According to Dr. John, if Nigerian universities are given autonomy, they can start taking care of their financial needs on their own without depending on the federal government.
