Less than a month after Auburn vs. Alabama was delayed in Tuscaloosa following a lighting malfunction at the Coleman Coliseum that bathed the arena in red, Auburn exacted some petty revenge Wednesday.
At Neville Arena (a.k.a. The Jungle) in Auburn, Auburn played Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” to needle Alabama for its hellish glow on Jan. 24. Alabama’s lighting malfunction delayed the game by about 15 minutes after half a minute was played, though Alabama ultimately won 79-75.
It’s the kind of thing that keeps rivalries such as this one fresh, even if it is a small jab all things considered.
Auburn also fired off a similarly petty post on X, formerly known as Twitter, before the game.
“I gave Nate a hard time,” Pearl said after the game in January. “I said, ‘Look, if you guys want a new facility, just get a new facility. You don’t have to turn the lights off.’ Something like that. It was just one of those things that happens.”
Auburn entered the game 18-4 (7-2 SEC) to play the Crimson Tide (16-6, 8-1 SEC). Alabama’s malfunction provided the Tigers with plenty of fodder pregame. But of course, in-game is what ultimately matters.
