Biden’s home is being searched by the Department of Justice, and other classified documents have been found
The Justice Department raided President Joe Biden’s Delaware home and seized other items containing classified information, his lawyers said Saturday.
The DOJ searched Biden’s Wilmington residence on Friday and found six items of classified documents, some dating back to his time in the Senate, in addition to his time as vice president in the Obama administration.
These agents obtained handwritten notes from his years as vice president.
Biden’s personal attorney, Bob Bauer, said the search lasted about 12 hours, beginning at 9:45 a.m. and ending at 10:30 p.m.
“The DOJ had full access to the president’s home, including personal handwritten notes, files, papers, binders, memorabilia, to-do lists, schedules and decades of reminders,” Bauer said. in a press release.
Bauer said in late December after some documents were found at a Wilmington residence and earlier this month “offered expedited access to his home to allow the DOJ to search the entire premises.”
White House counsel Richard Sauber emphasized cooperation with the Department of Justice in a separate statement. Sauber said neither Biden nor first lady Jill Biden were at the residence when the search was conducted.
“The President’s counsel and the White House Counsel’s Office will continue to cooperate with the DOJ and the special counsel to help this process proceed quickly and efficiently,” Sauber said.
Attorney General Merrick Garland on January 12 appointed a special counsel to investigate Biden’s handling of classified documents.
“There’s nobody there,” Biden told reporters during a visit to California on Thursday.
“We found several documents … filled in the wrong place, we immediately handed them over to the board [National] Department of Archives and Justice,” he said. “We are fully cooperating and hope this is resolved quickly.”
“I think you’ll find, there’s nothing there,” he continued. “I have no regrets. As the lawyers told me, I am. That’s exactly what we do. There is no “there”. Thank you.”
