BALTIMORE, Md. — Taylor Dawkins went 2-for-3 with a double for the Bowie State Bulldogs in a 6-1 loss to the Morgan State (1-0) Bears on Saturday afternoon at the Lois T. Murray Field. The tilt was one of two games against the Lady Bears for BSU.
Akirra Pullen (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Bowie State (0-1). Dawkins led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. BSU plated a run on a based-loaded walk by Jahkya Watkins. The Bulldogs were unable to hold the lead, as Morgan State scored six times over the remaining five innings to grab the 6-1 win.
» BSU’s highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed one run across.
» Bowie State pitchers faced 29 Morgan State hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and eight fly balls.
» Dawkins led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double.
» Morgan State was led offensively by freshman Victoria Fletcher, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
» Anaya Hunte led the Bears pitching staff, throwing five innings of one-run ball.
The Bulldogs will compete in the HBCU Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. on Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18 at Tyger River Park. The Bulldogs will take on members from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) beginning with Albany State on Friday, followed by tilts with Kentucky State and Miles on Saturday and closing out with contests versus Edward Waters and Tuskegee.
