FINAL: Iowa 93, Maryland 85
Maryland didn’t have enough time to mount a comeback after Molly Davis’ late triple.
Aside from Clark’s heroics, Iowa’s defense buckled down when it needed to, holding Maryland scoreless for three minutes down the stretch. It was a solid win against a Terrapins team and crowd that brought its best.
It marked Iowa’s first win at Maryland’s Xfinity Center.
Q4/0:42 Iowa 89, Maryland 80
Maryland has made a habit of hanging around within striking distance, but it seems every time the Terps narrow their deficit, Clark makes a terrific pass to an open teammate that extends Iowa’s lead.
Davis then made the likely dagger 3-pointer with 40 seconds left.
Q4/4:51 Iowa 81, Maryland 76
After Maryland tied the game at 76-76, Clark made a deep 3-pointer to settle Iowa down.

Q4/7:33 Iowa 73, Maryland 72
While Maryland has started the frame on a 6-0 run, Iowa can’t get anything to fall.
The Terps are benefitting from the crowd’s energy right now, while Iowa has come out sluggish.
End of third quarter: Iowa 73, Maryland 66
It’s been an offense-heavy contest so far, with Maryland’s big 28-21 third quarter performance making this a close game.
Iowa was desperate for someone to step up besides Clark, and Stuelke (9 points) did well in to pick up the slack in the third frame.
But the Hawkeyes need to refocus on stopping drives to the rim.
Q3/0:57 Iowa 71, Maryland 65
Maryland captured its first lead, 63-61, since midway through the first quarter following a 25-3 run. Clark found Hannah Stuelke for a layup to recapture the advantage for Iowa, 66-65, and Clark then swished a triple to give Iowa some cushion.
Another Stuelke layup in transition from Clark then forced a Maryland timeout. Clark has 31 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Q3/4:17 Iowa 61, Maryland 61
Clark stopped Maryland’s 13-0 run with a deep triple, but the Terps responded right away with a 3-pointer of their own.
Maryland then continued its run, extended it to 21-3 to tie the game.
Q3/6:12 Iowa 58, Maryland 50
Maryland went on a 10-0 run to force an Iowa timeout. The Terps were more patient in their shot selection, which led to more efficiency, while the Hawkeyes looked clunky with their possessions.
Iowa could use a third offensive threat aside from Clark and Davis, who have combined for 39 points. No other player has more than six points.
Q3/8:33 Iowa 56, Maryland 38
It’s been a slower pace to start this third quarter, with Clark appearing more passive than before.
She found Kate Martin on a terrific backdoor cut for a layup, and then took advantage of Maryland’s poor transition defense by driving to the rim for an easy two points.
Halftime: Iowa 52, Maryland 38
Clark scored seven straight points to end the half. She’s up to 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting.
Molly Davis also had a strong half with 12 points, with the pair doing the heavy lifting for the Hawkeyes.
Maryland’s offense consistently generated good looks, but its defense struggled to stop the Hawkeyes from getting open 3s or easy looks at the rim.
Q2/1:40 Iowa 48, Maryland 36
Clark just made one of her best highlights of the season, using a behind-the-back dribble into a spin move for an and-1 layup.
As her jump shot has gone cold, she’s made more of an effort to get to the rim in the second frame.
Q2/4:09 Iowa 41, Maryland 29
Molly Davis has been stellar so far to start. She has 10 points and three assists after going on a 4-0 run herself to force a Terrapins timeout.
Q2/6:16 Caitlin Clark helped to the sideline
Clark was helped off the court and to Iowa’s bench after taking a hit to her midsection.
She appeared to be OK, but was in visible pain for a few moments.
She checked back into the game after a couple minutes.
Q2/7:19 Iowa 31, Maryland 26
Clark and Iowa are a little cold to start the second quarter, while Maryland has made a couple open jumpers.
Both teams are missing makeable layups tonight.
End of first quarter: Iowa 27, Maryland 19
Clark is putting on a show right now. She’s up to 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting from downtown, carrying the Hawkeyes to a solid early lead.
Maryland, conversely, has had a balanced offensive attack but went cold after a strong start.
Iowa has already made seven triples and is outrebounded the opposition 13-8.
Q1/1:20 Iowa 19, Maryland 18
Iowa responded well out of the timeout, regaining a small lead as both teams traded buckets.
Clark is on fire to start, hitting her first three 3-point attempts, all coming from well beyond the arc.
The Hawkeyes have struggled, however, with taking care of the ball. They have four turnovers, most coming from traveling violations.
Q1/7:04 Iowa 3, Maryland 11
On the first possession of the game, Clark found her spot on the left wing and made a deep triple in a defender’s face.
Maryland responded with an 11-0 run, executing a physical play style on both ends that forced a Lisa Bluder timeout.
