Canada approves WestJet’s acquisition of smaller rival Sunwing Airlines – statement

March 10 (Reuters)The Canadian government said on Friday it had approved WestJet Group’s acquisition of smaller rivals Sunwing Airlines and Sunwing Vacations, subject to strict conditions.

Those conditions include requirements to preserve capacity on routes most affected by the merger and improve baggage handling to improve the passenger experience, the country’s aviation regulator Transport Canada said in a press release.

WestJet, the low-cost carrier, Onex Corp. owned by private capital EX.TO.
