The UDP won 11 seats in the Meghalaya Assembly elections, while the PDF won two seats.

On Sunday, two major regional parties – the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) – backed the NPP-led alliance, bringing the number of MPs supporting the Konrad K-led coalition to 45. Sangma.

The UDP and PDF are NPP allies in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

Besides two independents, the NPP, which won a record 26 seats in the February 27 polls, was sent letters of support by the BJP and the HSPDP, each with two MLAs.

“I support the formation of the government on behalf of the United Democratic Party parliamentary party,” UDP leader and former president Metba Lyngdoh said in a letter to NPP chief Konrad. K Sangma.

PDF MPs Banteidore Lyngdoh and Gavin Mylliemngap met Sangma at his residence during the day and handed over letters of support to him, party members said.

In the recent elections, the UDP won 11 seats and the PDF won two.

An extraordinary meeting of the assembly was called for the swearing-in ceremony of the deputies, which should take place on Monday, and the election of the speaker at the end of the week.
