Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has returned home to Buffalo after spending nearly a week at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center after suffering a cardiac arrest and collapsing in the final game of the week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Doctors said at a news conference Monday that Hamlin was released from the hospital early and flown to Buffalo, where he is “doing well” and “at the beginning of the next phase of his recovery.” “.
Doctors say they still don’t know what caused him to collapse a week ago during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dr. William Knight told reporters on Monday: “We are happy that he is on the mend.”
“We expect him to undergo ongoing tests and evaluations to determine the cause of the incident and rule out any pathology,” he added.
Doctors said Hamlin had been walking since Friday, eating regularly and receiving treatment. They said his recovery from the heart attack, which is considered a life-threatening event, was on what medical professionals called a “very normal” or even an “accelerated” trajectory.
“The goal for every patient with a serious illness or injury is to help them get back to baseline as much as possible,” Knight said.
“We anticipate that he may have ongoing needs — whether it’s therapy or working with different professionals — to get him as close as possible to where he really is,” she added.
Knight told reporters he went to the airport with Hamlin, where he caught a flight to Buffalo. Hamlin is currently hospitalized there.

In a series of tweets after the press conference, Hamlin praised Cincinnati’s medical team and offered his update.
“I came home to Buffalo today with love in my heart. It was truly a wonderful feeling to see the world gather around me on Sunday. The love you all have shown me is the love I plan to put back into this world [and] Control. Bigger than football!” Hamlin tweeted.

Hamlin’s heart stopped beating on Jan. 2 in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals after what appeared to be routine. First responders revived him using CPR and using a defibrillator.
Doctors at UCMC credited the quick response of first responders as saving lives.
The NFL said it would not reschedule the Bills-Bengals game, which was suspended in the first quarter after Hamlin’s collapse.
In a press release Thursday, the league said the suspension “will have no impact” on which clubs qualify for the playoffs.
