Drake joked about New Balance at the Nike Maxim Awards

Drake is many things, however being a stand-up comedian may not be his forte.

The Boy took the stage at Nike HQ on Thursday, September 8th while hosting the Nike Maxim Awards. The event was held in Beaverton, Oregon.

However, his offhand remark about Nike’s age didn’t seem to get the laughs it deserved.

Drake told the crowd, “Nike is 50. Nike is so old they wear New Balance.”

The audience, on the other hand, responded with groans and minimal response.

However, Drake wasn’t deterred as he tried to make another joke.

He mentioned, “I’ll have a quick drink.”

The 35-year-old rap star continued: “Nike being 50 years old means LeBron is going to try to come in and make you play for the Lakers this year.”

Additionally, he added, “This is the year you go to a restaurant and see Nike with red wine with Jared Dudley and Carmelo Anthony.”

In addition, Drake made some light-hearted jokes about the supply chain problem at Nike.

Drake pokes fun at Tyga during his monologue

Drake caught some big names during his speech at the Nike Maxim Awards, including Adidas and Kanye West.

However, fans were quick to note that he also poked Tyga during his speech.

The Canadian rapper joked: “When you put things into perspective. Adidas has Kanye, I think.”

In addition, the statement managed to provoke laughter from the audience at the massive gala.

However, Drake continued: “Nike, we got LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis [Antetokounmpo], Michael Jordan. The greatest creative mind of all time, Virgil Abloh, rest in peace. We have Cristiano Ronaldo.”

He continued: “We have Serena Williams. We have a tiger [Woods]. And I’m pretty sure Reebok has Tyga, so we’re cool.”

In case you didn’t know, the One Dance hitmaker has a long-standing beef with Tyga. It comes from an interview with the 32-year-old rapper in 2014.

The Taste singer said at the time: “I don’t like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me.”

Additionally, he added, “We were forced together and it was like we were forcing our relationships together.”
