Families south of San Francisco face uncertainty after a storm tore off the roof of an apartment

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KGO) — The past 24 hours have been a nightmare for Cindy Rodriguez and her family. Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, part of the roof of their Susie Way apartment complex was ripped off by a storm that hit the Bay Area.

“We heard like a storm. We felt the building shake, and the next thing you know, it’s just water pouring everywhere,” Rodriguez said.

And the Rodriguez family is not alone.

Most of the people in the building sustained significant damage to their homes and property.

Everything from water dripping from their ceiling to ruined carpets and floors.

Authorities deemed the entire building uninhabitable, leaving residents homeless and thousands of dollars in potentially lost property.

“We have nowhere to go now. We were really sheltered last night,” Rodriguez said.

But Rodriguez said it’s not just about the residents’ property now, but what’s next and where they go from here.

We spoke to several families staying at the resort and they told us that the host was not helpful and did not even come personally.

One of them told ABC7 News they were offered to move them to another building, but it was so dirty and moldy that they refused.

We tried to call him ourselves, but when we introduced ourselves as media, he quickly hung up the phone without answering our questions.

“It’s really frustrating. I don’t understand why he can’t just come, not even the warm words of “Hey, I know this is a tough time, but I’m here.” Rodriguez said.

For now, Rodriguez says she and her family can only hope for the best.

“I don’t know what the next steps will be. For example, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. I don’t know what’s going to happen to all our stuff here.”
