Guardiola has admitted admiration for player Liverpool fancy as Bellingham alternative
Liverpool are keen on Jamal Musiala but could end up facing competition from Manchester City, while Bayern Munich are reluctant to sell.
It has been clear for some time now that Liverpool have a big target for the 2023 summer window.
Resisting the temptation to sign an outfielder this summer — instead of signing Arthur Melo himself — was a pretty obvious hint.
Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham looks to be the man Liverpool want, but they may need to keep backup targets in mind.
Liverpool fans Jamal Musial
Bayern Munich star Musiala has suddenly emerged as a potential target.
German Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg stated that Liverpool are interested in signing Musiala as they consider other options should Bellingham not join.
Nineteen-year-old Musiala has been sensational this season with seven goals and eight assists in 13 games across all competitions.
Musiala was born in Stuttgart but grew up in England from the age of seven. He could have played for the Three Lions – or even Nigeria or Poland – but he chose Germany.
A technically gifted playmaker, Musiala appears to be on his way to stardom and has been one of Bayern’s most impressive players this season.
Liverpool may be keen to lure Musiala to Anfield, but accomplishing the task seems a tall order.
Bayern Insider podcast Bild reports that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has taken a liking to Musiala.
After City took charge of Bayern a season ago, Guardiola is believed to have used intermediaries to communicate his admiration for Musial.
City are also in the running in Bellingham and may – like Liverpool – see Musial as a back-up target.
However, the report adds that Bayern consider selling Musiala almost impossible as they want to build around him for the future.
Any ideas of bringing Musial to the Premier League may have to be shelved for the foreseeable future with little chance of convincing Musial to sell.
