Halle Berry Ariel casting confusion in The Little Mermaid explored

The Lion King, Jungle Book, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast… now it’s Ariel’s turn to reimagine her.

A number of Disney animated classics have received vivid and photorealistic CGI treatments in recent years, and fans are currently expecting the same for The Little Mermaid.

The upcoming American musical, directed by Rob Marshall, is scheduled for release on Friday, May 26, 2023, and serves as an adaptation of the 1989 animated film of the same name. It was loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name.

A trailer was recently released for the project, but attention fell somewhat on the casting mix of Halle Berry’s Ariel on behalf of some viewers.

Halle Berry’s Ariel casts confusion in The Little Mermaid

Many viewers believe that Halle Berry was cast in the central role of Ariel, the mermaid princess and daughter of King Triton.

However, the 56-year-old American actress does not solve the role at all. The confusion stems from the fact that 22-year-old American singer and actress Halle Bailey has been cast in the role.

The similar names have thrown some off, but CNET reports that Berry recently responded to the mistake by tweeting a stunned silent meme.

However, Berry came out in support of Bailey. She recently responded to a fan who basically congratulated her on the role. “Wrong Halle lol” Berry wrote. “Although I can’t wait to see her!”
