‘He’s complete’: Former boss says Newcastle star can play for Real Madrid

Newcastle United playmaker Bruno Guimaraes has the talent to play for Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid when the time comes to leave his Premier League employers, former Brazilian coach Athletico Paranaense Tiago Nunes has told Sport.

If Elon Musk were ever to organize a football tournament on the scorched red surface of Mars, then the “IRL Iron Man” could do a lot worse than call Newcastle’s number 39.

Because, according to Nunes, Bruno Guimaraes is a footballer of truly cosmic talents out of this world.

“Bruno Guimaraes without a doubt,” says the well-traveled Nunes when asked to name the footballer who has impressed him the most during his nomadic coaching career.

“He is a very complete midfielder who looks like he has four eyes. He plays with the camera overhead; has a 360° view. I remember when I had him at Paranaense (in 2018/19) Benfica asked me if he had the level (necessary to play for them).

“And I told them: “No, he has the level to play for Barca, Madrid and Mars if he wanted to! But they didn’t sign him and he went first to France and then to England.”

Bruno Guimaraes has had an extraordinary impact at Newcastle United

Eight months after landing on Tyneside, speculation is already rife over Guimaraes’ future at St James’ Park. Real Madrid have reportedly identified the former Arsenal target as a long-term successor to Toni Kroos or Luka Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Eddie Howe can rest easy for now. With four years left on his contract, Guimaraes is in no rush to dig out his passport again.

“It’s a dream come true to play in the Premier League,” Guimaraes tells FourFourTwo. “Everything is wonderful. Sometimes I think about myself; “This is what I was born for, the Premier League. I already feel at home here.

“The fans are crazy about me and there’s nothing like that in football. Honestly, I love the streets so much that sometimes I feel like I’m the mayor of the city!

“Newcastle have had a tough time in the recent past and are now coming back. Every single home game is amazing because the atmosphere is incredible – it’s completely different to any other Premier League ground.

“Our fans remind me of Brazilian and South American fans. It’s damn good to play in a place like this.”
