It is no longer news that Kenyan Vice President William Ruto has been declared the winner of the Kenyan presidential election.
According to the official result released by the electoral commission there, the vice president narrowly defeated his nearest rival Raila Odinga, winning 50.5% of the vote.
Many world leaders including President Muhammadu Buhari have congratulated new President William Ruto on his victory in the poll.
However, it is interesting to note that this is the fifth time that Raila Odinga will contest for the highest political seat in Kenya. He lost in all his attempts to take over the African country.
Raila Amolo Odinga, a popular Kenyan politician, former Member of Parliament for Langata and businessman who served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013.
He ran for the post of president in 1997, 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2022.
Odinga’s bid for the presidency failed in 2007 when he challenged Kibaki. Later, an agreement was reached between him and Kibaki that secured him the post of Prime Minister.
Odinga, who ran for president again in 2013, was narrowly defeated by past president Uhuru Kenyatta of the National Alliance (TNA).
In 2017, both Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta met again in the presidential election and Odinga was again defeated.
