ICYMI: China cuts April manufacturing PMI results

China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released PMI data for April over the weekend.

As I said in that post:

A return to contraction in manufacturing PMIs will increase pressure on Chinese policymakers to provide further stimulus to the economy. Indeed, China’s Politburo said on Friday that they recognize that “weak momentum and insufficient demand” will hold back the recovery.

China’s statistics people (representative of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)) said after the data:

  • “A high base effect from the lack of market demand and the rapid recovery of production in the first quarter”

contributed to the weakness of the April PMI.

The PMI composite index for April reached 54.4
