A large gold deposit has been discovered in Serbia, Minister of Mines and Energy Dubravka Dedović Negre announced on Friday.
Preliminary results of technological tests have shown that the new deposit can produce a pure gold concentrate with a total gold recovery of more than 93 percent, the official said.
He noted that this news could be important for the country’s economy, especially for Eastern Serbia.
This news was made by Dundee Precious Metals, an international gold mining company based in Canada, which implements projects in the Balkan country. The company said it found a high-grade field in the Koka Rakita exploration prospect in eastern Serbia and “extraordinary results” final drilling.
The head of the ministry emphasized that the project is at the evaluation stage and additional studies are needed to clarify the size of the deposit.

Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that his country has significantly increased its gold reserves in the last two years.
Serbia’s gold reserves of 38.1 tons make it the largest Balkan economy and 54th in the world in terms of gold reserves, according to the latest data from the World Gold Council.
