‘Mourinho loved him’: Joe Cole lauds Tottenham player who is ‘always in the right position’

Jole Cole has raved about Tottenham Hotspur’s “excellent” Eric Dier and how he is a player “loved” by Jose Mourinho, Gareth Southgate and Antonio Conte.

Dier’s form has changed over the past 12 months and he returned to the national team last week after previously being left out of the England squad, with Cole describing the Tottenham all-rounder as a player who is “always in the right position”. ” because of his intelligence.

From playing in the middle of the park, then at centre-back, he has been unable to cement his place in any position for much of Dier’s career.

But under Conte he has now found a regular position in the middle of the back three, a role he also played for England last week – starting in both games against Italy and Germany.

And now there’s no reason why Dier shouldn’t be on that plane to Qatar and not only earn a place in Southgate’s final World Cup squad, but be in the starting XI.

Cole shared how Dier is loved by all the managers he plays under, which shows the quality the 28-year-old has in his boots, as told by Channel 4 Sport.

“Eric Dier likes to read the game,” Cole said. “We saw him play in a central midfielder role. We saw him play in the middle of the three.

“He has been outstanding in a resurgent Spurs team this year and has been one of the catalysts for that. He gets the ball. He can play across the lines. He’s not the fastest, but he can cover well. Always in the right position. A very intelligent player.

“I would say about Eric Dier that José Mourinho loved him. Antonio Conte loves him. Gareth Southgate loves him.

“When you’re a player and their managers keep picking you, then that has to give you confidence.

Spurs are unbeaten in the Premier League this season but face their biggest test yet this weekend.

It’s been a while since Spurs beat Arsenal at the Emirates in the Premier League, but what a time for it to happen.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table and if Conte can push his side to three points in the north London derby, then they will move to the top themselves.

So there is a lot riding on this weekend’s game and Dier will have a big role to play to lead his side to the three points as Arsenal’s attack plays with freedom and confidence.
