A juror in R. Kelly’s child sexual abuse trial has been replaced and excused after suffering a panic attack during closing arguments.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Juror R. Kelly has a panic attack in court

On Monday, September 12, after nearly two years, the closing arguments of R. Kelly’s second trial were held at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse in Chicago.

However, it was reported that one of the 12 jurors suffered a panic attack during the proceedings. The juror was further excused from attending the session.

Additionally, Jason Meisner, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, reported that the juror was white and appeared to be in her mid-30s. He also revealed that she worked for a public library.

He tweeted: “One of the R. Kelly judges is having a panic attack and doesn’t believe she can continue,” the judge says.

In a follow-up message, Meisner said, “The judge says he’s juror #44 who works for the public library. The 7th juror was selected. “I want to apologize to her,” Leinenweber says.’

Additionally, he added: “[Judge] Leinenweber says the juror said she didn’t think she “could go on a minute longer” and that waiting overnight wouldn’t help. She would be replaced by an alternate, Juror #83, white male, age 60.”

Additionally, according to reports, the woman has only heard headlines about the disgraced hitmaker, but has never seen the documentary series Surviving R. Kelly. However, it appears that the graphic content presented during the trial may have chosen her.

More on R. Kelly’s child sexual abuse trial

R. Kelly is facing sex crime charges for the second time in just a year. He is already serving a 30-year prison sentence after being convicted in New York of federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges.

In the current trial, the 55-year-old R&B singer is accused of child pornography and obstruction of justice.

He is alleged to have intimidated and bribed witnesses to withhold evidence related to a 2008 criminal trial on child pornography charges in Cook County.

Additionally, the alleged victim, who identifies herself as Jane, revealed last month in Chicago that Kelly had sex with her several times before she was 18. She also claimed that the singer filmed intimate videos of her when she was just 14 years old.
