A Russian strike on a Ukrainian railway station has been confirmed to have killed 22 people.
Before the 22 dead were recorded, Zelensky said: “I have just received information about a Russian missile attack on a railway station in (central) Dnipropetrovsk region. At least 15 people were killed and about 50 injured,” Zelenskyy said in a speech at the UN Security Council.
Zelenskyy said the strike was “right on the wagons at Chaplino station. Four passenger cars are on fire.”
“Rescuers are working on the scene, but unfortunately the number of victims may increase. This is our everyday life,” Zelenskyy said.
The strike comes as Ukraine commemorates Independence Day, commemorating its separation from the Soviet Union in 1991.
Moreover, it comes as the national conflict with Russia, which began on February 24, reaches its sixth month.
Zelenskyy said earlier on Wednesday that Ukraine would fight “to the death”.
While most of the current fighting is centered in eastern and southern Ukraine, neither side appears to be making any progress there, with Russia routinely targeting Ukrainian cities with long-range missiles, according to Kiev.
