Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) vowed to retaliate after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he would suspend Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Service.

“Kevin McCarthy fired me and @RepSwalwell from the Intelligence Committee. “This is a small political reward for investigating Donald Trump,” Schiff said. tweeted. “If he thinks that’s going to stop me, he’ll soon find out how wrong he is. I will always support our democracy.

Earlier this month, McCarthy told reporters that he planned to keep his promise to keep Schiff and Swalwell off the intelligence committee.

During his tenure as chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Schiff promoted the debunked theory of Trump-Russia collusion. Furthermore, when primarily responsible for the impeachment, Schiff “read a fictitious petition between [former president Donald] Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were influenced as Democrats tried to impeach Trump, according to Breitbart News.

“Adam Schiff blatantly lied to the American public,” McCarthy told reporters at a news conference earlier this month. “He impeached America for four years, which he knew was a lie, while we had Ukraine, while Afghanistan was collapsing. Was that the role of the Intel committee? No”

On the other hand, Swalwell was criticized by McCarthy for having a sexual relationship with Chinese spy Fan Fang.

“Let me tell you something very bluntly: If you had received the briefing that you received from the FBI, you would not have had Swalwell on any committee,” McCarthy told reporters. “He can’t get a security clearance in the private sector.”

When Republicans held a minority in the previous Congress, McCarthy promised to remove Schiff and Swalwell from the Intel committee if the GOP regained the majority and he controlled the president.

“I promise you that when I’m president, [Schiff] he will no longer be part of the Intel committee,” McCarthy told Fox News in June. “And you know, neither does Swalwell. I don’t know if that’s a high bar. But if you have a relationship with a Chinese spy, you shouldn’t be allowed on the Intel board.
