“Second Amendment Becomes Suicide Contract”

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said on CBS Evening News Monday that the Second Amendment is a “suicide pact” as he discussed the mass shooting at a Monterey Park dance studio that killed 11 people.

Anchor Nora O’Donnell said, “One person who came to this community today was California Governor Gavin Newsom to express his condolences to the victims and their families.”

Newsom said, “It’s a shame.”

He added: “There is nothing surprising about it. All of this is infuriating.

“California has some of the strictest gun laws in the United States,” O’Donnell said.

Newsom: “I mean, the Second Amendment has become a suicide pact.”

“But there are a lot of Second Amendment and legal gun owners in this country,” O’Donnell said.

Newsom: “Yes, I have a lot of respect. I have no ideological objection to anyone’s reasonable and responsible firearm ownership, background checks and training.

O’Donnell: “How did he get an illegal gun in the state of California?”

Newsom: “We’ll find out. It will happen. We follow the laws, but everything goes with a scratch, but that doesn’t mean you give up.

He added: “I would argue that there is no country in the world that doesn’t have behavioral health issues, despite the behavioral health challenges.”
