Actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his mother, the BBC reports.

A 24-year-old man was sentenced in British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver on Wednesday (September 21) after admitting to shooting his mother in the head while she was playing the piano in their home.

He was initially charged with first-degree murder, but later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, saying on the final day of court in June: “I cannot explain or justify my actions. I have no excuse.”

“It pains me to think of how much I have wasted my life. In the face of something so terrible, saying sorry seems so pointless. But I am sorry with every fiber of my being,” he continued.

The Vancouver actor starred in Riverdale, Marley & Me and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but no one remembers him in the 2010 children’s film.

Role of Ryan Grantham Diary of a Wimpy Kid

In the movie, Ryan played a character named Rodney James, who is one of the students at Westmore Middle School.

He takes part in the school play The Wizard of Oz, he initially auditioned for the role of the Tin Man but did not get the part.

Rodney is then cast as a bush, a silly role with no lines that they created to fill in the gaps because there are too many kids.

The character cleverly smuggles a video game console into his costume and plays it during rehearsals while Bush does nothing.

In one scene, classmate Archie Kelly trips him and bites his tooth, leading the school to change the bush’s costume to make holes in their arms.
