Sky pundit ‘surprised’ £20m man hasn’t moved amid Newcastle & West Ham talk
Jobi McAnuff has expressed his “surprise” that Newcastle United and West Ham United transfer target Emmanuel Dennis is still Championship side Watford.
The former striker and EFL pundit added that he has been told Dennis has not sulked since returning this summer, but West Ham and Newcastle are still interested in the £20m man.
The 24-year-old started Watford’s draw at West Bromwich Albion on Monday night, with another of his sought-after teammates, Ismaila Sarr, scoring from halfway.
West Ham are in Europe so they will feel they have more appeal than their Premier League rivals who may outbid the London club for the money Newcastle can throw at the game.
Either way, a player like Dennis is too good to work his magic in England’s second tier, despite his performances fading during Watford’s latest relegation.
However, McAnuff spoke about Dennis’ future and how he expects the entire event to head east before the Sept. 1 deadline.
“Not if he keeps playing the way he’s been playing. I’m actually surprised to see him still there. It clearly has an appreciation that has yet to be met. All he can do is perform.
“I spoke to Rob Edwards and he was delighted with my request. He didn’t sulk or ask to be moved. He knows he has to do business on the field.
“They will be disappointed to lose him. But for now he’s doing his job.”
MOYES OR HOW?
If Dennis is to move, where should he head between West Ham United and Newcastle United?
The Hammers are the more proven outfit of recent years, already in Europe and a few steps ahead of those from Tyneside.
However, that could all change over the next eight months as Newcastle have ambitions of their own, with Eddie Howe in the dugout.
Newcastle finished the previous campaign in a very strong way and are looking to get into Europe, a player like Dennis is perhaps more needed at St James’ Park as they have less depth, but if either club can get his signature then they have an ice forward on their front.
