Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley found a migrant family with two children abandoned by smugglers on the banks of the Rio Grande. RGV Sector Chief Patrol Officer Gloria Chavez saw the rescue.

US Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz tweeted a video on March 9 showing RGV agents rescuing a family stranded on the Texas side of the Rio Grande in the dark. The migrant family has two children, Ortiz reports.

RGV Sector Chief Chavez witnessed the rescue of a migrant family near the Roma Historic District in Texas.

“The other day we were patrolling the river bank where we met families with children,” Chaves said. He said the families came from Honduras, Guatemala and China.

“My biggest concern is the children who are neglected because they are young,” he continued. “I’m worried because they fell into a small raft. It was eight people.

According to Chávez, the smuggling “leader” puts migrants and children in extremely dangerous situations.

“It’s very easy to fall off that raft,” he explained, “especially for kids.”

Chavez said officers in the Rio Grande Valley have had more than 121,000 encounters with migrants this fiscal year alone. The new fiscal year began on October 1, 2022. He said 37,000 of those were in the Rio Grande City station’s area of responsibility.

In addition to apprehended migrants, more than 27,000 additional migrants are classified as known fugitives, according to an unofficial report by the Border Patrol obtained by Breitbart Texas.
