Suns center Brionna Jones is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut Sun post Brionna Jones has undergone surgery and will miss the rest of the WNBA season with a torn right Achilles tendon, the team announced Saturday.

Jones suffered the injury just over a minute into Connecticut’s 85-79 win over the Hurricanes on Tuesday. He had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal before being sidelined.

The reconstructive surgery was performed Friday in Seattle, the team said.

“Even though I didn’t think this season was going to end this way for me, I’m ready to take the next step in my recovery and recovery. I know I have a great support system behind me. , and I will come back stronger than ever,” Jones said in a statement.

The 6-foot-3 Pole, the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year last season, is averaging 15.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for the Suns (11-3) this season.
