The winter forecast calls for snow in New York, New England today

A winter storm that has brought snow and ice to much of the country as it swept across the United States this week is expected to reach the Northeast on Wednesday.

Winter storm warnings for New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine
Parts of New York will remain under a winter storm warning for Wednesday, with some statewide warnings extending into Thursday, the National Weather Service in Albany said.
Heavy rain and up to 11 inches of snow were expected in northern and eastern New York.
Forecasters can expect less than half an inch of snow in New York on Wednesday.
Winter weather advisories are in effect for northern New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for parts of Maine from 7:00 PM Wednesday through 3:00 PM Thursday. Between 6 and 10 inches of snow is expected in south-central, southwest, west-central and western Maine, according to the Maine National Weather Service. .
The weather service has warned to keep extra lights, food and water in your car if you must travel in dangerous winter conditions.
Winter weather moves south
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C., a winter weather advisory will remain in effect from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday for the northern Virginia Blue Ridge and central Virginia Blue Ridge.
