Where is Maggie at the FBI?

At the FBI, Maggie Bell is still recovering off-screen after being exposed to a near-fatal dose of toxic sarin in episode 18 of season 4.

Maggie and OA spent the episode trying to track down a dangerous terrorist who had a deadly nerve agent.

The pair manage to find their target, a man named Hakeen Abbas, but while Maggie tries to negotiate with him, he pulls a gun and forces her to kill him.

In the process, Hakeen drops a canister of sarin gas, leaving Maggie trapped in the room as the toxic nerve agent begins to spread.

Maggie was incredibly lucky to survive the attack after the OA managed to free her, but she was left in poor condition and required extensive medical treatment before she could return to active duty.

Why hasn’t Missy Peregrym returned yet?

While Maggie almost lost her life in the series, actress Missy Peregrym has a much happier reason for her absence, as she is currently on maternity leave.

After announcing her pregnancy on social media in February, Missy gave birth to her second child on June 6, 2022.

In a heartbreaking Instagram post, Missy revealed that she gave birth to a daughter named Mela Joséphine Oakley, her second child with husband Tom Oakley, after they welcomed baby boy Otis in March 2020.

Speaking about Missy’s hiatus from the show in an interview with Variety , FBI showrunner Rick Eid said, “I basically told her, ‘Tell us what you want, what you need, and we’ll try to accommodate it.’ She felt great and wanted to work as long as possible.

“We had a general idea of when he was going to leave, so it was just a matter of finding the right episode to go with it and the right plot to go with it. I think the sarin gas idea seemed like an exciting and exciting way to send her off.

“We just wanted to find a way to believably send her away to the imaginary worlds we live in and make it so that she could come back when she was physically ready to come back.”

This is Missy Peregrym’s second maternity leave

Long-time FBI fans will remember that Maggie was absent from the series before, specifically towards the end of Season 2 when the character was away on an undercover mission.

In fact, the mission was a way to bypass the first part of Missy Peregry’s maternity leave after giving birth to son Otis and son Tom Oakley.

After being absent from the last few episodes of Season 2, Missy returned in the opening episode of Season 3.

This time, however, Maggie’s absence is felt much more acutely as she is set to miss the opening few episodes of Season 5 alongside the final chapters of Season 4.
