‘Would be fun’: £15m striker responds to Everton and Leeds United links

Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres admits he feels ready for the Premier League as he discussed those Everton and Fulham links while speaking to Fotboll Skanalen.

The seven-time Sweden international may have scored just two goals for the Championship strugglers this term, but as Sunderland supporters will tell you, give Viktor Gyokeres time and space at your peril.

In a game of drastically low quality, the former Brighton youngster lit up the Stadium of Light on 1 JulyHoly; winning possession, skipping around a tackle or two before blazing a shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

It was a goal of undoubted Premier League quality from a man who has his fair share of top admirers. It was Fotboll Skanalen who reported Everton’s interest, with The Sun claiming Fulham had also spotted the 6ft 2in, £15m-rated powerhouse.

Leeds United are also monitoring his development at the Ricoh Arena (Dean Jones).

Is Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres really ready for the Premier League?

“Of course, it’s fun,” Gyokeres replies. “But (the summer move) didn’t happen and I’m still with Coventry.”

“Yes, definitely (I’m ready for the Premier League). I have been in England for a long time and it would be fun. But I’m open to other leagues as well. I’ve been to Brighton before.

“There were a few different factors (why I didn’t move this summer).”

Gyokeres, an emphatic finisher who had a memorable spell at Swansea City a couple of seasons ago, scored 18 goals for Coventry last term, ensuring the Sky Blues never looked in danger of a return to League One.

“You did exceptionally well. And he’s still learning the game,” explains Coventry boss Mark Robins.

“Hopefully he can (reach the top level). Things are going in the right direction for him. He’s still learning the game but he’s working a lot on his strength and pace and he’s obviously got an eye for goal.

“There are still areas he can work on, that’s for sure. But yeah, I think he’s got a lot of really good qualities that allow him to play at the highest level at some point.”
