Yaya DaCosta’s Chicago Med season 8 return explained
The doors to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center have reopened, and fans are invited to bask in the familiar and the new.
That is right. One Chicago is back on NBC and Peacock, with Med, Fire and PD all continuing with brand new seasons and telling the compelling stories of Chicago’s best paramedics and officers.
Created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, Chicago Med is the third installment in the franchise and began premiering in 2015, quickly gaining a fan base thanks to crossover appeal from existing titles.

Yaya DaCosta’s Chicago Med Season 8 Return Explained
The 39-year-old American actress reprized her role as April Sexton in the season 8 premiere.
Ethan (played by Brian Choi) goes to visit his father’s memorial and meets her. As you may recall, the couple was once engaged, but the union was eventually called off after a series of obstacles arose.
This is her first time back on the show since season 6, when she joined the nurse program.
During an interview with Variety, co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider addressed the decision to bring her back.
“We talked about what we wanted it to do story-wise, especially with Ethan and the resolution of that relationship,” Diane explained. “We never really got to finish it. We really wanted to, so we reached out to see if he would come back for this. They’re not sure where the other person stands, so they tread on it quietly.”
Andrew confirms the star was “very excited” to return to the role. “She wanted to honor that character and decide April’s relationship with Ethan,” he added.

Speaking of excited, Andrew echoed it during another chat with TV Insider:
“When we brought up the idea of her coming back and interacting with Ethan and resurrecting their relationship, she was very excited to give resolution to that relationship and honor the character she played for so many people. flight.”
Diane also acknowledged that they found out earlier in 2022 that “she was very happy to be back.”
As for how many episodes it will be in, Diane confirmed that it will only be three episodes.

One Chicago Center reports that the actress simply felt it was time to take advantage of another opportunity as she was given the chance to star in a Lee Daniels film. Our kind of people; she previously collaborated with him on Servant.
